# App Builder: FAQs & Troubleshooting

Answers to common App Builder questions, and fixes for stalled builds, preview errors, failed tests, and failed publishes.

This page answers common questions about building, importing, versioning, and publishing apps. Use the troubleshooting entries when a build stalls, the preview errors, tests fail, or a publish doesn't go through.

## FAQs

### Building

<details>

<summary>Who can build and publish apps?</summary>

Every standard role can view apps. Building, importing, exporting, publishing, sharing, versions, Git, custom domains, and attaching agents need Developer, Account Admin, or Organisation Admin. See [Roles](/ai-workbench-qore/control-center/admin/roles.md).

</details>

<details>

<summary>What's the difference between Plan Mode and Build Mode?</summary>

**Build Mode**, the default, builds on every prompt. **Plan Mode** lets you talk through the requirements first, and nothing is built until you switch back. **Publish** is unavailable in Plan Mode. See [Plan](/ai-workbench-qore/console/app-builder/plan.md#plan-mode).

</details>

<details>

<summary>Which kinds of app can I build?</summary>

**Web App**, the default, with pages, data, and a backend; **Website**, for landing pages and marketing sites; and **Mobile (Beta)**, a native app for Android and iOS. See [Create a new app from a prompt](/ai-workbench-qore/console/app-builder/creating-and-importing-apps.md#create-a-new-app-from-a-prompt).

</details>

<details>

<summary>How long can one request run?</summary>

Up to 45 minutes. A longer request is stopped, and the work done so far is saved. See [Describe and build](/ai-workbench-qore/console/app-builder/app-workspace.md#describe-and-build).

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can I edit the generated code myself?</summary>

Yes. In **Code**, select a file, select **Edit**, make your changes, and select **Save**. Saving an edit creates a new version. See [Code](/ai-workbench-qore/console/app-builder/app-workspace.md#code).

</details>

<details>

<summary>Does building an app use credits?</summary>

Yes. The workspace's Credits meter shows what the app has consumed: credits used, cost, and when the figure was last synced. See [Credits](/ai-workbench-qore/console/app-builder/app-workspace.md#credits).

</details>

### Importing, versions, and export

<details>

<summary>What can I import?</summary>

A ZIP package or project up to 500 MB, a GitHub repository, or a GitLab project. A Qore Platform package is restored as it was; anything else, such as a Git repository or a project from another builder, is converted into a Platform app. See [Import an existing app](/ai-workbench-qore/console/app-builder/creating-and-importing-apps.md#import-an-existing-app).

</details>

<details>

<summary>What's the difference between View Version and Revert to Version?</summary>

**View Version** loads an older version temporarily; your current version stays unchanged. **Revert to Version** reverts the app to it. **Published** marks the version users see. See [Versions and publishing](/ai-workbench-qore/console/app-builder/app-workspace.md#versions-and-publishing).

</details>

<details>

<summary>Where does an app export go?</summary>

To your email. The package isn't downloaded in the browser; Qore shows *Export started. You will receive an email when it is ready.* Chat history is left out unless you tick **Include chat history in package**. See [Export](/ai-workbench-qore/console/app-builder/app-workspace.md#export).

</details>

### Publishing

<details>

<summary>Does an app need a database to publish?</summary>

Yes. The database is **Required** on the publish checklist; without one, the app can't be published. See [Connect the database](/ai-workbench-qore/console/app-builder/deploy.md#connect-the-database).

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can I change where each service runs after publishing?</summary>

Yes. Republishing redeploys the affected services. See [Choose where each service runs](/ai-workbench-qore/console/app-builder/deploy.md#choose-where-each-service-runs).

</details>

<details>

<summary>What happens when I publish a new version?</summary>

**Publish** shows the last published version, its date, and the live URL. Review the checklist and select **Publish Changes**; the platform deploys the current version and updates the live URL. See [Publish a new version](/ai-workbench-qore/console/app-builder/deploy.md#publish-a-new-version).

</details>

## Troubleshooting

### Building

<details>

<summary>My app started building before I finished planning</summary>

Build Mode builds on every prompt. Switch to Plan Mode first. See [Plan](/ai-workbench-qore/console/app-builder/plan.md#plan-mode).

</details>

<details>

<summary>The build seems stuck</summary>

Check the build conversation for an **Agent is waiting for your input** step, such as choosing a provider. Make a choice, or select **Skip**. See [Create an app](/ai-workbench-qore/task-guides/create-an-app.md#common-issues).

</details>

<details>

<summary>"This request ran too long and was stopped"</summary>

A single request can run for up to 45 minutes. The work done so far is saved. Send a follow-up to continue, or split the request into smaller steps. See [Describe and build](/ai-workbench-qore/console/app-builder/app-workspace.md#describe-and-build).

</details>

<details>

<summary>"We are currently experiencing an issue with code generation"</summary>

Code generation failed. Try again, or switch to a different model. See [Describe and build](/ai-workbench-qore/console/app-builder/app-workspace.md#describe-and-build).

</details>

<details>

<summary>The preview shows an error</summary>

A bar at the bottom of the build conversation shows the error, for example `UNHANDLED_REJECTION`, with **Fix with AI**. Select it to send the error type and message to the build agent, which fixes the app and rebuilds the preview. See [Fix errors](/ai-workbench-qore/console/app-builder/app-workspace.md#fix-errors).

</details>

<details>

<summary>Fix with AI is greyed out in Security</summary>

Fix with AI is already working. Wait for it to finish. See [Security Scans](/ai-workbench-qore/console/app-builder/security-scans.md).

</details>

<details>

<summary>Proceed is greyed out in Attach Agent(s)</summary>

Tick at least one agent. See [Integrate an agent](/ai-workbench-qore/task-guides/integrate-an-agent.md).

</details>

<details>

<summary>The Export icon is disabled or missing</summary>

Exporting needs the **Export App** capability. The icon isn't shown while the app is still in its initial plan. See [Export](/ai-workbench-qore/console/app-builder/app-workspace.md#export).

</details>

### Tests and publishing

<details>

<summary>A build failed its tests</summary>

Open **View Report** to see which suites and tests failed. Fix the app in the workspace, by describing the fix or forwarding a failing test to the build agent, then rebuild; the new build gets its own test run. See [If a build fails its tests](/ai-workbench-qore/console/app-builder/testing.md#if-a-build-fails-its-tests).

</details>

<details>

<summary>Publish is unavailable</summary>

**Publish** is unavailable in Plan Mode, and publishing needs the **Publish an app** capability. Without it, hovering shows *You don't have access to publish apps*. See [Plan](/ai-workbench-qore/console/app-builder/plan.md#plan-mode) and [Roles](/ai-workbench-qore/control-center/admin/roles.md).

</details>

<details>

<summary>The checklist shows the database as Not Configured</summary>

Select **Connect** beside the database, choose a database, then create a schema or connect an existing one. See [Connect the database](/ai-workbench-qore/console/app-builder/deploy.md#connect-the-database).

</details>

<details>

<summary>"Publishing Failed"</summary>

Select **Try Again**, or **Fix with AI** to send the failure to the build agent. **View Error Details** opens the deploy log, with numbered build steps and the underlying error. See [Resolve a failed publish](/ai-workbench-qore/console/app-builder/deploy.md#resolve-a-failed-publish).

</details>

<details>

<summary>Import from GitLab shows no projects</summary>

GitLab needs an account connection first. Select **Connect GitLab**, authorize Qore, and return to the tab. See [Import from GitLab](/ai-workbench-qore/console/app-builder/creating-and-importing-apps.md#import-from-gitlab).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.uptiq.ai/ai-workbench-qore/console/app-builder/app-builder-faqs-and-troubleshooting.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
